144: SOMATICS

Our ability to produce and process energy daily is dependent on the mind-body connection. The more efficiency in the flow of our nervous system the better the rhythm our systems are in and the better we feel. Any loss of this flow or rhythm leads us to imbalances that eventually lead to symptoms.

Understanding this enables us to understand that when we have chronic pain or problems the answer lies within you finding more connection with your mind and body.

Dr. David and Dr. Nick chat about the science of SOMATICS and focus the lens more on a rehabilitation environment.

The Doctor Dads chat about:

  • The science of Somatics
  • Sensory-motor amnesia
  • Pandiculation
  • Why passive stretching and strengthening have a short-term benefit and don’t correct long-term dysfunction
  • Using Somatics to rehab and fix chronic pain
  • Finding the right practitioner to help you map your nervous system to find the root problems

Somatics describes any practice that uses the mind-body connection to help you survey your internal self and listen to signals your body sends about areas of pain, discomfort, or imbalance. These practices allow you to strengthen the mind-body connection through increased awareness and voluntary activation.

Somatic therapy involves learning how to calm or discharge stress, tension and trauma. These techniques can include breathing exercises, neuromuscular rehabilitation, mindfulness and other body movement techniques. Somatic therapy techniques are mind-body focused to help us calm our nervous systems that have been overloaded by stress and reconnect the brain to the body.
